Advantages and application of auto transformer
Advantages-
1. Continuously varying voltage can be obtained.
2. The section of the winding that is common that is common to both primary and secondary circuits it carries only the primary and secondary current.
3. An auto transformer require less copper and its more efficient than a two winding transformer of a similar rating.
Applications-
1. The auto transformer is used as a balance coil to give neutral in a 3-wire ac distribution system.
2. Auto Transformer with a number tapping is used for starting induction motors and synchronous motor.
3. A continuously variable auto transformer find useful application in electrical testing laboratory.
4. This transformer have the biggest sphere of usefulness as regulating transformers.
5. This is also used as boosters to raise the voltage in ac feeders.
